Battle of Oriskany, New York

The Battle of Oriskany, New York took place on Wednesday August 06, 1777. The leaders of Great Britain is Chief Joseph Brant, John Butler, Sir Jon Jonson. The U.S. Colony  leaders were Nicholas Herkimer, Peter Gansevoort . Great Britain had an army of 500 men with 95 killed, 57 wounded and 10 captured. U.S. Colonies had an army of 800 men with 385 killed,  50 wounded and 30 captured.        It was one of the bloodiest battles of the Revolutionary War and a significant engagement of the Saratoga  Campaign. The results of the battle remain unknown. On August 6,1777 Herkimer had a meeting.  He had not heard the signal to begin the fight so he decided to wait.  His captain said Herkimer did not want to fight because his brother was on the other side.  The indians didn’t wait and opened fire taking people by surprise.  Herkimer was hit by a ball in the leg and his horse died.  Several people carried him off.  John Butler convinced his men to turn their coats inside out to disguise themselves as a relief party.://www.google.com/search?q=battle+of+oriskany+american+revolution+public+domain&espv=2&biw=1440&bih=794&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjqiabyl6XSAhVHK
